A great weekend was had by all at the DSAuk Boccia and Badminton tournament, last weekend, with many LPUK members taking part.

The Boccia and Badminton tournament is a weekend full of sporting competition and showcases the very best of the nations dwarf athletes in both Boccia and Badminton. With competitors participating as Singles, Doubles or Teams, in the different age categories; Junior to Masters, each one aiming for gold.

Badminton was once again an action packed competition, with the world class Krysten Coombs taking Gold for the Singles competition and Silver, alongside LPUK President Warwick Davis, in the Doubles matches. Rebecca Bedford was once again fantastic in retaining the female singles title. As was the junior competition with even more LPUK members winning medals, including Bruce Dee and Jack Smith. It was also great to see the development of the younger players, with this being their first time competing.

This year there were many old faces competing to retain their titles in the Boccia, along with new players; LPUK member Paul Hinton was competing for the first time, reaching the Quarterfinals, before being knocked out by Martin Rush, he also managed to reach the Semi Final in the Masters teams catergory, with team mates Pete Bonner and DSAuk President Arthur Dean. With the overall gold medal winner of the Boccia Masters Singles being Emmanuel Wauthier. LPUK Chairperson Sam Davis also competed to win a medal in the Masters team competition. There were also a number of younger LPUK members competing in the Junior categories with a stand out performance from Erin Smith, winning a medal in the Junior teams at her first competition.

The final competition of the weekend is the Peter Sugden trophy, where the winner from the Junior, Open and Masters Singles Boccia competition aim to be the best of the best. This year it was won by Junior member Seamus Morrison.

A huge thank you to the team at DSAuk for a fantastic weekend of competition, it’s safe to say everyone from LPUK who attended had a great time, and we look forward to the same again next year.
