August was a huge month for LPUK where we held our 8th Annual Convention at Nottingham Belfry.
The event was attended by over 270 people, we saw lots of 'old' faces and we were delighted to welcome over 30 new attendees, we had a lovely welcome meeting on Friday night for all of our new attendees, to ensure they were greeted in the warm and friendly LPUK way.
We had a fantastic Medical Panel with consultants from a wide range of specialisms, there was - Mr Suri (Geneticist), Mr Danielpour (Neurosurgeon), Dr Graham (General Practitioner), Sara Taylor (Physiotherapist), Matt Taylor (Hypnotherapist and Counsellor), Mr Powell (Audiologist) and Anushri Patel (Hearing Scientist) all moderated by Dr Donna Walters (Clinical Psychologist). The fantastic consultants then offered their time to hold one-to-one appointments, to help individuals with any specific queries.
It was great this year to welcome The Speakmans, who worked with some of our guests building confidence and self-esteem, before holding a whole group workshop which all of our attendees joined in. Dr Donna Walters also held a Mental Wellbeing workshop, where she gave our members lots of tips and skills to ensure they look after their mental health, to compliment looking after their physical health.
We also had a very informative workshop by LPUK member Anthony Blanchard, who was able to offer some useful advice to our members regarding PIP.
Throughout the weekend there were lots of activities taking place for people of all ages, to ensure everyone was catered for, we had Laser Tag, LEGO, Sublime Science, Escape Rooms, along with a teen and children's room. There were also lots of opportunities to win a few prizes and help raise funds for LPUK, with Tombola and Raffles, along with the opportunity for people to get 'glammed up' for the evening with our specialist hair and make-up team.
We were also very lucky to welcome some great expo stalls, which provided some fantastic opportunities for our members to enquire and obtain information and equipment which could prove useful, we welcomed - Vela Chairs, TomCat, Remap, Chris Elliott scooter and car adaptions, Angela Cannon with Bowen Technique, Access Card and Nottingham Driver Centre.
We had two fantastic evenings on Friday and Saturday, both of which were finished by the fantastic DJ Barry. Friday we had the fun of the LPUK Quizingo, followed by a lovely BBQ and some excellent Hero and Villain fancy dress. Saturday was a time for our banquet and buffet meal, where we were thoroughly entertained by Ventriloquist and America's Got Talent winner Paul Zerdin.
The weekend was a huge success and from the feedback everyone had a great time, we are already thinking about plans for next years event and details of this will be released in due course, keep an eye on the events page on our website.
Thank you to all of our volunteers, who help throughout the event, without your support the event would not be a success.
