RCM iLearn logo

We are proud to announce that since February we have been delighted to work with Royal College of Midwives (RCM) to create an online module aimed at developing the knowledge of midwives regarding working with expectant parents who have a connection to dwarfism, whether they are average height parents expecting a child with dwarfism, or parent(s) with dwarfism expecting a child.

The RCM i-Learn system is designed to improve new and experienced midwives knowledge, through a series of short, informative online modules, which they can access at any point, focusing on a specific area. They will receive a certificate on completion of the module, as evidence for their CPD portfolio.

The module we have developed gives some information about dwarfism, including the characteristics and some basic terminology, along with explaining the circumstances in which someone may work with a person with dwarfism, highlighting any issues which need to be taken in to account.

A number of LPUK members have worked on this project, all having experience of pregnancy with relation to dwarfism. We have enjoyed undertaking this project and we hope it will help develop the knowledge of midwives around the country, helping many expectant parents with what can be a worrying time.

We aim to work with other organisations in the future, to develop similar training resources and ensure professionals, in all aspects, have improved knowledge of working with someone with dwarfism, to ensure as LPUK we are providing support throughout all aspects of life, nationwide.
