‘Small Steps to Great Things’ An LPUK News Update

2023 Feb event

We hope everyone is enjoying some lovely sunshine and colours that spring has to offer!

In February we held our 10th Anniversary Celebration event in Milton Keynes, which was a wonderful time for everyone to get together over the winter period. It was great to see so many people, including a few new members, there was bingo, a quiz and a raffle followed by our buffet and evening disco, giving everyone the opportunity to have a great time.

Following the announcement at the end of 2023, at this event we also held an AGM to elect the new LPUK committee, whose term will last until February 2024. Andrew Smith was voted on as chairperson, with Danielle Webb as vice-chair, and Stuart Walker remaining as treasurer. Also voted on to the committee were Charlie McGreal, Andy Moyes, Laura Smith, Kay Kelly and Jayne Ansell. Once again a huge thank you to all previous committee members who stepped down at this event, your contribution has been invaluable and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

We received lots of feedback from the event and we are already putting some of this into action. Since the event we have our new LPUK Mum’s group, Film and Television group and Gardening group which are all on Facebook, there is the continuation of LPUK Book Club and we held our first of the returning online quizzes with an Easter/Spring theme. Following on from this we have begun plans for developing our 12 month online program which we will release soon. Committee member Kay Kelly held a regional event, which we hope will be the first of many and we have introduced the LPUK Totaliser to help monitor the fundraising and donations we receive. We have increased our presence on social media with our themed months of Members’ March, Adaptations April and soon to come; Juniors June.

Some other projects are continuing such as our Hospital Guidebooks and Medical Practitioners Directory on our website, amongst other projects such as our support to Hollyoaks, participation with Peterborough Physical Disabilities Partnership Board, support of Changing Faces and Over The Wall.

We have a number of upcoming plans including our online Mum’s meet-up, sunflower growing competition and Juniors June. Along with a variety of other ideas still in discussion and planning stages. If you have any suggestions, please do email and let us know.

The committee are also in full swing organising the 2023 LPUK National Convention. This event is to be held at Nottingham Belfry, on 25th to 27th August 2023. Details of booking will be released in the next few months, with all details being available to our membership.

Don’t forget, to attend our 2023 event membership is required, this can be achieved via our website here

Following our AGM we have seen a positive increase in fundraising and we can’t thank our members enough for their efforts and support. LPUK would not be able to continue without this support and for that we are truly grateful. If you have any fundraisers or would like to discuss ideas, please let us know.

Don’t forget LPUK is here should you need to get in touch and we have lots of information on our website, with signposts of advice and support.

If anyone has anything they would like to add to the next newsletter, please do get in touch, we love to hear from our members and share all of your positivity.

Thank you,
Little People UK
